Osborn DE CAILLY married Maud DE BANDEMONT and had a son Humphrey around 1100 AD. Humphrey had son Simon, who had son Roger, then came John, then another John, Adan, Sir Hugo (Knight of Owby, Lincolnshire), and so on, down the generations.

Eventually William CAYLEY was born in 1610 at Brompton, Yorkshire who later married Dorothy ST QUINTIN. As a result of his service to King Charles I, he was created a Knight in 1641. For his service in the Civil Wars, Charles II created him a baronet.

Amongst his children was Cornelius, who also had a son Cornelius. The son Cornelius was a barrister and Recorder of Hull, who married Elizabeth SMELT in 1723. Amongst their children was John CAYLEY H.B.M., Consul-General at St Petersburg. John married Sarah COZENS at Kronstadt, Russia and amongst their daughters, Sarah married Edward MOBERLY.
