Rebecca Mills

Thomas MILLS was born in Denver, Norfolk, in England, but moved to the parish of Ely Holy Trinity in Cambridgeshire. In 1805 at Ely Holy Trinity church, he married Sarah CUTTRISS, daughter of Robert CUTTRISS and Nightingale CUTTRISS (nee DYSON). Their son, Henry MILLS (sometimes Henry Cuttriss MILLS) was baptised in 1810 at Holy Trinity Church, Ely. They also had sons Robert and George. (There was also a daughter, Mary, baptised in 1815 at Holy Trinity Church who died later that year.) Thomas deserted Sarah and their 3 sons in 1818 and was later examined before the Court of Petty Sessions.

Henry MILLS was a chair-maker and a cabinet maker, who married Rebecca STANFORD in London in 1834. They had children Rebecca , Henry, George, Jane, Elizabeth, Sarah, William, Harriet, Susan, Mary Ann. The parents, Henry and Rebecca, followed their daughter Rebecca in emigrating to Victoria, Australia, as did some of their children.

The daughter, Rebecca MILLS, emigrated on the Herald of the Morning as a general servant, and went to live with her aunt Susan MILLS (nee STANFORD, widow of Robert MILLS) in Prahran, in Melbourne, Victoria. She married Thomas BOND in Melbourne in 1857. Her brother George also emigrated to Australia. He married first to Mary Ann TYNAN and later to Mary Jane MOORE, having a number of children with each wife.
