Daniel McKENZIE (or McKINZIE) was born in Scotland, between 1766 and 1776. He might have been born in Stevenston, Ayrshire, but more likely he was born on the nearby Isle of Arran.
Daniel was a shoemaker. He married Ann BARBOUR in Stevenston, and since then, some of his descendants have remained in the "Three Towns" of Stevenston, Saltcoats and Ardrossan, although others have emigrated to Canada and to Australia. Daniel and Ann had the following children:
- John, a cotton hand loom weaver
- Alexander
- Grizel (or Grace), who married Andrew SILLARS
- Margaret, who married Hugh HOWIE
- Daniel, who married Elizabeth McGEE and then Mary McINDOE
- Samuel, who married Margaret McBRIDE (more below)
- Ann, who married John ANDERSON
Daniel's (and Ann's) son Samuel McKENZIE was a handloom-weaver of muslin. He married Margaret McBRIDE and had the following children:
